Danbury is a large village situated to the east of Chelmsford. It lies on the route of the A414 which provides the main transport link between the City of Chelmsford, the A12, Maldon and the Dengie Peninsula.
Danbury covers an area of 5 square miles and is set in wooded hills. The highest point of Danbury Hill is 110 m above sea level, with the Parish Church of St John the Baptist at its summit.
At the heart of the village is the village green with its pond and distinctive duck house.
The surrounding countryside is mainly arable with some sheep farming and there are large wooded areas and meadows, some of which are managed by the National Trust and the Essex Wildlife Trust. The Country Park is popular with residents and those from further afield.
